Thank you also to Helen for another successful event.

Pack Meeting ~ Wednesday
Second Hill Lane School Gym
December 19, 2007 6:45pm - 8pm
"Celebrations Around The World" This pack meeting was hosted by Den 3.
All of our scouts learned about the reason to give to such charities as the food banks, not every one is as fortunate as we are. We had a large quantity of food donated which will be transported to the food bank by Den 3. Our scouts also had a visit during closing circle by a jolly man in a red suit. Our scouts picked up their incentives from the wreath sale, and we closed out the year with our Cubmaster wishing everyone a happy and healthy Holiday! See you all in January!

Pack Meeting ~ Wednesday
January 16, 2008 6:45pm - 8pm
Second Hill Lane School Gym
"Cub Scout Car Show"
This pack meeting was hosted by Dens 5 & 11.
Our scouts watched dens 5 & 11 perform their skit "The New Car" and had quite a good chuckle. Then after our awards we were visited by Scoutmaster Randy DeBiase and his son Randy Jr who talked to us about stock car racing! We actually got to see the car that Randy Jr races in, in the parking lot! We all had so much fun in the Automobile Relay! In our closing circle our Cubmaster reminded us to be strong when life puts us to the test and remember the Cub Scout Promise and what it means. We were updated on upcoming events and received our Fishing Derby Flyers, our invitation to the Blue and Gold Dinner and were able to sign up for Movie Night Tickets. Great meeting dens 5 & 11 !

Movie Night
Friday, January 25th
Doors opened promptly at 6:00pm as about 95 scouts, siblings and adults joined us for the showing of Shrek 3 and National Treasure. Our scouts enjoyed their pizza from Tony's and Popcorn courtesy of Bow Tie Cinnemas of Trumbull. After the night was through we had gone through 15 gallons of "bug juice", and quite a bit of candy at .25/piece it was hard to pass up! Sleeping bags and pillows galore! Thank you Den 6 parents and scouts for chairing this event. Chris, Adam, Thaddeus, Dylan and Jon-Michael worked hard and had lot's of fun too! Thank you also to the Levine and Poison families who came out to help as well. At 10:20 our movies were over and weary eyed we all "left no trace" as we cleaned up before we went home for a good night's sleep. Thanks go out to those who stayed and helped clean up after all the sleeping bags and blankets were picked up, we always appreciate the helping hands.

Family Games Night
February 13 - Second Hill Lane School Gym
WOW! What a great FUN night! All of our dens brought out fabulous games for our scouts to play. They all won tickets and turned them in for prizes and goodies. It was heard that one scout said, "I never knew Cub Scouts was so much fun!" Many thanks go out to the leaders and parents of Dens 2 and 4 who hosted our Games Night. The prizes were out of this world. Thank you to all of our scouts who remembered to bring a non perishable item for Sterling House Food Bank. Also, Michele Appleby collected all of the Blue and Gold reservation forms, which were due by tonight.

Blue and Gold Dinner
Sunday February 24, 2008 Oronoque Country Club

About 175 scouts, siblings and parents came out to celebrate the Birthday of Scouting. This year's Blue and Gold Dinner was once again held at Oronoque Country Club from 2pm - 6pm. We began our afternoon with our Webelos ll dens performing our opening ceremony. The theme this year was Swashbuckling Pirates and den leaders made their scouts "skullies" or doo rags and a "den flag" as well as thought of a name for their den's pirate ship. The den's flags were displayed around the dining room and the stage had an actual pirate ship built by Rich Craven. The tables had a treasure chest full of goodies for our scouts and balloons welcomed each family to their table. Our Cubscouts earned many awards that they have been working hard on. Cody the Pirate came and entertained our scouts with a treasure hunt and then relay races. We all enjoyed a wonderful child as well as adult friendly meal, and had birthday cake and ice cream. Our leaders were awarded with their service year pins as well as some "funny" awards from our Cubmaster, letting both our scouts and our leaders know that they are appreciated. Our leaders performed a skit "The Pirates of Pack 172" and our scouts got quite a chuckle out of seeing our leaders perform a skit, rather than themselves for a change. After our Cubmaster closing the afternoon with a ceremony reminding us all that the time we have to shape our boys into responsible young men is limited, our scouts were presented with a gift of a Pack t-shirt (which is also considered our class B uniform)
Pinewood Derby cars were distributed at the dinner as well.
This event was chaired by Michele Appleby and Evelyn Lesko and they did a wonderful job!

March 19,2008 6:45pm - 8:00pm

This Pack Meeting was hosted by Den 7.
Thank you Den 7 for a well planned out and very fun and interesting Pack Meeting. We began our night with our scouts dropping off their Pinewood Derby cars for their initial weigh in. After our opening ceremony Den 7 treated us to a skit "To the Sun". We loved their costumes! Our guest speaker Mr. Heiden presented us with a power point presentation showing us many costellations and showed us how to find them in the night skies. We all had a lot of fun playing "Meteor Shower" planned and run by our Den 7 parents. Job well done Den 7.
We remind all of our scouts that they may bring a non perishable food item to our Pack Meetings. The items donated this month will be delivered to Mertin House by our hosting den.

Fishing Derby
April 5, 2008
Deer Lake, Killingworth
What began as a forecast of a rainy weekend turned into a clear day for fishing on Saturday. Only a few of our scouts participated in this year's Fishing Derby. We did not hear of anything caught other than a good case of POISON IVY! Well, April is the kind of month that you just never know when it comes to the weather in New England. You know what they say, If you want to know the weather, look out the window!

Archery Weekend
April 11 - 13, 2008
Troop 72 BSA SUMC ~ For Webelos 1 & 2
Boy Scout Troop 72 had invited our Webelos Scouts for Archery weekend. There was Camping, Archery, Cooking, Canoeing skills, Knife Safety, Outdoorsman and Games and more. We had 11 Webelos scouts that attended this event and once again what began as a forecast of a rainy weekend cleared out just in time for the beginning of a wonderful program of events hosted by Troop 72. Our thanks go out to Cubmaster Randy and all of his "crew" for inviting our scouts for a look into Boy Scouting!

Pack Meeting - Second Hill Lane School Gym
April 23,2008 6:45pm - 8:00pm
"Cub Scout Magic"
This Pack Meeting was hosted by Dens 1 and 10.
After our Tigers presented the colors they led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Cub Scout Promise. The skit performed by our Tigers, "Bear Droppings" left us all saying "eeewwwwww". Great job Tigers! Our guest speaker tonight was a magician Mr.Bungles, courtesy of our Tiger parents. Mr. Bungles entertained our scouts with comedy and magic. We all had a great time playing Coin Relay, and our Cubmaster Rich wound up the evening reminding us that the magic lies within, and asked all of our scouts to try to go out and perform a magical act by doing a good deed for someone without their knowledge of who might have done it.
The non perishable food items donated this month will be delivered to Sterling House by our hosting dens.

Mystic Sleepover
April 25,26, 2008
This was our annual BIG EVENT. This event was chaired by our Assistant Cubmaster Bill. This year our "Big Event" was the Mystic Aquarium Overnighter that was organized by the Connecticut Yankee Council. 22 scouts with chaperones met in front of Mystic at 6:45pm. We registered, were escorted to the area to put our gear down and had a snack. After a short orientation meeting we were split into groups by Packs. Being the largest Pack represented it took 2 groups to accomodate our scouts. The scouts went to several stations where they learned about the Aquarium and the residents of the Aquarium. One of these station was SQUID DISECTION...eewwww! We turned in for the night near the shark tank. As we dozed off we saw shadows pass over our heads. (JAWS!) Upon waking we packed up our gear and had a short outdoor tour to visit the beluga whales and the sea lions. We all enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast! Some of our scouts decided to stay at Mystic for the day, while others called a day after a visit to the gift shop. All in all, the scouts had a great time, learned a lot along the way and were a wonderful representation of what scouting is all about.
