Celebrating the Birthday of Cub Scouting
Swashbuckling Pirates

Oronoque Country Club
2:00PM - 6:00PM
About 175 scouts, siblings and parents came out to celebrate the Birthday of Scouting. This year's Blue and Gold Dinner was once again held at Oronoque Country Club from 2pm - 6pm. We began our afternoon with our Webelos ll dens performing our opening ceremony. The theme this year was Swashbuckling Pirates and den leaders made their scouts "skullies" or doo rags and a "den flag" as well as thought of a name for their den's pirate ship. The den's flags were displayed around the dining room and the stage had an actual pirate ship built by Rich Craven. The tables had a treasure chest full of goodies for our scouts and balloons welcomed each family to their table. Our Cubscouts earned many awards that they have been working hard on. Cody the Pirate came and entertained our scouts with a treasure hunt and then relay races. We all enjoyed a wonderful child as well as adult friendly meal, and had birthday cake and ice cream. Our leaders were awarded with their service year pins as well as some "funny" awards from our Cubmaster, letting both our scouts and our leaders know that they are appreciated. Our leaders performed a skit "The Pirates of Pack 172" and our scouts got quite a chuckle out of seeing our leaders perform a skit, rather than themselves for a change. After our Cubmaster closing the afternoon with a ceremony reminding us all that the time we have to shape our boys into responsible young men is limited, our scouts were presented with a gift of a Pack t-shirt (which is also considered our class B uniform)
Pinewood Derby cars were distributed at the dinner as well.
This event was chaired by Michele Appleby and Evelyn Lesko and they did a wonderful job!
