Blue and Gold Dinner 2009
Cub Scout Pack 172
February 22
Celebrating the Birthday of Cub Scouting
“Come Clown Around With Us!”
Oronoque Country Club
1:00PM -5:00PM
About 125 scouts, siblings and parents came out to celebrate the
Birthday of Scouting.
This year's Blue
and Gold Dinner was once again held at Oronoque
Country Club from 1pm - 5pm. Our event began with our Cub Scouts and families
arriving to find cotton candy, popcorn, circus tattoos, clown noses and balloon
animals for all. Our scouts had their pictures taken behind clown, elephant,
lion and ringmaster cutouts. Our Ringmaster Rich began our Pack 172 Circus with
all of our Webelos ll scouts performing the Opening Ceremony. Our Webelos ll
scouts then performed a skit called "Clown Car". They all came out of
the clown car, driven by Mrs. Clowny Kovach and shared with us one element of
the Boy Scout Law. After our skit, Bob, Cubmaster Rich and Assistant Cubmaster
Brian presented our scouts with their awards that they have been working hard
on. Many of our scouts earned rank at this event! After a wonderful buffet
dinner, our leaders showed off their unusual talents. Mrs. Poisson juggled
scarves and was assisted by Cub Scouts Ryan and Chris.
Susie provided the sign that told what kind of juggling was happening. Mrs.
Nagel, assisted by Mr. Kelly and Mr. Tremallo was brave and courageous as she
walked the Pack 172 "tight rope". Mrs. Kovach barreled out onto the
floor on a unicycle providing a few gasps from the crowd when it looked like she
might "fall", only to be "rescued" into a spinning circle
by Mrs. Poisson. Mr. Duca provided the hightlight of our skit when he entered
the room dressed as the bearded lady
"Brianna". He/she really worked the crowd into a frenzy of laughter! Leadership pins were presented along with some special presentation
by our Cubmaster to all of his hard working leaders, to show his
appreciation for all of the time and effort they have put in making Pack 172
run smoothly this year. New Leaders were awarded ropes for learning the ropes
this year, and senior leadership were awarded
compasses to help them guide the Pack in the future to fulfill the Pack
mission. Entertainment followed with the Midnight Magic of Frank Sapione. Frank
provided our scouts with a great show and the Cubs loved volunteering to help
for certain tricks! Blue and Gold gifts were distributed by the Den Leaders to
each Cub Scout that attended. Pinewood derby cars and rules were
also given to each Den Leader for every scout in their Den. After our Cubmaster's closing remarks, our scouts left the event with
a bright balloon in their hand and a smile on their face.
And that is what Pack 172 is all about. Cub Scout Pack 172 - where too much fun is never enough!
Cameo here - Dan Chantlos! :)
Helen Levine, Julie Kovach, Michele Shedlock, Barb Poisson and Kathy Rainey
chaired this event and
they did a wonderful job!
