Don’t let the lack of equipment prevent you from participating in the upcoming outing?

You have several options when it comes to camping equipment. In Cub Scouts when you go on a pack overnight, the pack generally tends to the food requirements and equipment of stoves, coolers, outdoor cooking gear and utensils.

You and your family would primarily be responsible for your shelter (tent) and sleeping gear (blankets or sleeping bag and pillow).

You have several options to acquire this necessary gear:

1. Use what you have no matter how new or old as long as it is functional.
2. Borrow gear from a friend or family member. Usually the campout is only overnight (one evening).
3. Purchase equipment. Tents range from $50.00 - $500.00 depending on size, style, etc.

A sleeping bag with a 40-0 degree rating can be purchased from $40.00 - $90.00. If you are camping in summer months you could get a lighter rated sleeping bag from $20.00 - $40.00 or just use blankets.

4. Rent a tent and some sleeping bags. Rental rates are very affordable while offering the equipment of choice for evaluating if you are contemplating a possible purchase. See chart below on rates.
5. Consult your Den Leader or Cubmaster on other options or to gain clarity on what is required.

No matter what option works for you don’t be afraid to join in on the fun. It’s only one night and the benefits of being outdoors and together with your Scout are …………. Priceless!

EMS RESERVATIONS for Equipment
All reservations are made on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability of the equipment. We suggest that you reserve a week or more ahead of time. You may reserve by paying the amount of the rental in advance. Each store takes phone reservations with Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express numbers only. The weekend begins after 6pm on Thursday, and extends until store closing on Monday night.
