American Legion Post 8 (Washington DC) is our Charter
Organization. Our Pack meets on Bolling AFB*
in Washington, D.C. In 2005, we celebrated our
45th year as a pack, as well as the 75th anniversary of Cub Scouting and the
95th anniversary of Scouting in America.

Recent Events: At our April pack meeting, 6 Webelos Scouts earned their Arrow of Light and crossed-over to Boy Scout Troop 343. Our Blue and Gold Celebration was held on Thursday, 15 Feb 07, at the Base Chapel. It was preceded by a Pizza dinner. Our Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday, 27 Jan 07, at the Naval Reserve Center (Anacostia Annex) Drill Pad. Our Pack earned the Quality Unit award for 2007. We held our annual Scouting for Food drive on 10-11 Nov 06 and collected ~785 pounds of non-perishable items that went to the Bolling Chapel and local area food closets. Our Popcorn Fundraiser is done. We had our fall Family Camping at Watkins Regional Park, MD, Oct 20-22, 2006, which included our October Pack Meeting. Our first pack meeting was held on 28 Sep 06 at the Base Chapel, where our theme was "Zoo Adventures." We held our annual Cub Scout Round-up on 7 Sep, where 20 new families learned about Cub Scouting and Pack 343.
2005-06 Events: Our third and final summertime activity was held on Saturday, 28 Aug 06. We had 24 youth participate in our Bowling Fun at Potomac Lanes. We had several Scouts, siblings and parents beat the heat with our second summertime activity of ice skating in July. We had 16 Scouts go to Cub World--NCAC's 4-day/3-night resident camp for Cub Scouts. Our first summertime activity was a trip to the Bowie Baysox game on Fri, June 9th, with several folks sleeping over on the ballfield after the game. Game was delayed by some rain, but then it was an exciting game with fireworks afterwards and pitching tents and sleeping in the outfield. We held our Family Camping on May 19-21 at Watkins Regional Park, MD. Saturday culminated with our campfire, May Pack Meeting and graduation. On Sat, April 29th, we held a Bicycle Rodeo at Giesboro Park. Over 50 youth got their bikes inspected and engraved, participated in a safety course and took a bike ride around the base. The event also featured McGruff the crime dog, a working dog demo by Security Forces and a magic show. On April 27th, we had a Pack Pizza Party followed by our April Pack meeting. On Wednesday, April 12th, scouts from Pack 343 and Troop 343 presented our charters to American Legion Post 8 during their regular meeting. At our recent Pack Meeting on Thursday, March 16th, we had 8 boys receive their Arrow of Light awards and then cross-over to Boy Scouts. The Horizon District Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday, March 4th. Pack 343 had 6 boys present and they all did well in the events, including taking 1st and 3rd place overall for the district. On February 16th, we held our annual Blue and Gold Banquet at Bolling's Main Chapel, with a theme of "Cubs in the Future!". It was quite a success. On January 28th, we held our Annual Pinewood Derby at the Naval Reserve Center. We completed our 2 service projects for this fall. Our Scouting for Food service project collected almost 750 pounds of non-perishable food items from Bolling/Bellevue Family Housing areas for the Base Chapel food bank and other local area food banks. For our other service project, Care Packages for the Troops , we built care packages for troops deployed from the National Capital Region and turned them over to representatives from the Bolling Family Support Center at our Nov 17th Pack Meeting.
