About  Cub  Pack  514

cs_counts.jpg

Cub Pack 514 was chartered by LIGHT (Lane Inter-christian Guild of Home Teachers) in 2002. Our first meeting was September 10, 2002. We started the pack with approximately 15 boys in the age range of 7 to 10. All dens, from Tiger to Webelos, were involved at that time. Our pack is made up entirely of homeschooled boys. We currently have a total of 26 boys from Tiger to Webelos 2. We have had one boy earn his Arrow of Light, with three more earning theirs in February 2004. LIGHT also chartered a homeschooled Boy Scout Troop beginning in September 2003.

Our pack is led by the Pack Committee including the Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, Committee Chairman, Den Leaders and committee members.  These volunteers guide the pack by planning pack meetings and other pack events throughout the year.  Parents are highly encouraged to participate in pack leadership.  Cub Scouting is family oriented. By volunteering, you reinforce your belief in and support of your own child.

Each week between September and May, all Cub Scouts meet in their respective dens to work on the achievements in their handbook.  On the last Tuesday of each month the Cub Scout Dens gather with their families for a pack meeting.  The scouts take turns participating in the flag ceremony, skits and presentations.  They can also display some of their handiwork.  The highlight of the meeting is the awards ceremony.

In addition, our pack traditionally holds a Pine Wood Derby in March and the Space Derby in April.  February is reserved for the Blue & Gold Banquet, through which we celebrate the birthday of scouting as well as the advancement of our Webelos Scouts to Boy Scouting.   From June through August, the pack typically takes a vacation from the weekly meeting schedule. The pack as a whole meets once during each of these months for a family event.

VOLUNTEERS:  Cub Pack 514 depends on adult volunteers.  Volunteer positions include event coordinators and helpers (Pine Wood Derby, Popcorn Fundraiser, Food Drive, Blue & Gold Banquet, Space Derby etc.), Den Leaders and assistants, committee members, and Cubmasters.  So come join in the FUN!
